Team Sleepy Dragons (David Naylor, Kay Naylor, Diane Shearer & Johnathan Tucker) is an amateur adventure racing team that is about to embark on the 550km non stop Expedition Africa adventure race through Namaqua, West Coast in May.
Team Sleepy Dragons have competed in a number of 25km and 120km adventure races by Kinetic events. They have made it to 1st place in the mixed teams series log for the Kinetic Adventure races in 2017. This will be the first time the team will be competing in Expedition Africa, but they are excited to take the big leap in adventure racing.
EXPEDITION AFRICA
From 20 to 27 May 20 teams will set off from the start of Africa’s toughest multi-discipline event, the 550km Expedition Africa adventure race. Hosted in Namaqua, Western Cape. Expedition Africa will challenge the fitness, skills, mental strength, endurance and navigation of all participants..
Expedition Africa is an international event on the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) calendar and this year it welcomes 20 four-person teams, representing 11 countries. This annual event is a non-stop 7 day long race where teams of 4 (elite and entry level adventure racers) navigate by map through Namaqualand, Western Cape. The race consists of 550km of trekking, Mountain biking, paddling and mountaineering through harsh remote environments in all weather conditions. Teams travel through day and night, they can decide if, when and where to rest.
Teams are equipped with GPS trackers which enables viewers from all over the world to follow and support the event live throughout the race, 24/7.
